Volodarske: the school and the church — a working visit
A new head teacher at Volodarske School No. 1 and 398 pupils, the search for a boiler-house contractor, coal and firewood for the church before the heating season, and an agreement with the People’s Front in the DPR.
The Chair of the foundation, Vladimir Kovalev, visited Volodarske near Mariupol — the village where his father lives and where his grandfather and grandmother are buried. “For me this is not a business trip, it is the road home.”
School No. 1. The new head teacher, Evgeny Korotkov, took office in August, and this is his first school year here. They went through the handover, compared notes and outlined what the foundation helps with next. The school currently has 398 children.
The foundation has been helping the school for years: New Year and drama performances, fabric for costumes. A separate task is the boiler house — a company is now being sought for its servicing and repair.
The church. Vladimir Kovalev called on Father Alexander and, after the service, they sat together in the refectory. The heating season is starting, the heating is stove-based, and the foundation is again buying coal and firewood. Gas has not been connected yet; work on the design and the contractor is under way.
A few years ago underfloor heating was installed in the church, and that turned out to be the key decision: in winter no one is cold during the service.
A separate meeting was held with Alexey Savenok, who leads the youth wing of the People’s Front in the DPR. They agreed to help the school and the church together.
“This is not one-off aid, it is work that has been going on for years.”
The project continues
398 pupils. The school’s boiler house has reached the end of its service life — the foundation is running a project to rebuild it so that children can study in the warmth.
